The Up and Coming.

Well, I'm back at Best Buy now, which is cool. Working on the Project Team, doing my Overnight thing.

However, the bad news is that the Team could potentially go down to 5 members from 12 in March-ish, so I am keeping my eyes open in the surrounding stores for spots. Bah.

Looking around for new cars, and the such, while looking around for a second job to bail myself out of the current hole I'm in, and save enough scratch for College and the such in the very near future.

Not a whole lot going on other than that.

On and On and This be the Zone and..

Well, my tenure at Office Max is coming to an end, nearly exactly a year after I started with them, I have already arisen to the ranks of Key Carrying Supervisor, but sadly due to a pay discrepancy and some general disgruntled feelings toward the whole "restructuring" process, I have chosen to leave them in lieu of a better offer.

As such, I will be returning to the clutches of the Blue and Yellow, which I probably should have never left from the get-go, staying would have prevented the great CompUSA Closing debacle amongst others, as I always enjoyed my time there. I will be returning as a Project Specialist, a member of the D16 Project Team, the Team responsible for doing the store resets, new roll outs, and general mayhem and such of the stores.

I have a new vehicle, for as long as it lasts me. A '93 Ford Tempo, as the Oldsmobile died quite suddenly and I found a great deal on the little beast. Gets much better gas mileage than the Olds, just gotta get a front bumper for it so I don't look like a redneck anymore.

Not a whole lot else going on in my life, really. I can safely say that being Pro-Obama just got a whole lot easier with McCain's choice for interim Vice President. I say interim because she's only VP until the geezer kicks it in the inevitably near future. Which is awesome because she has zero, ZERO, world politics experience. She was the Governer of the great, but thoroughly segregated from the rest of the world, state of Alaska for ohhhhh a year and a half, and before that served even more obscurely on a City Board in said great state. Republicans say it won't matter, because McCain has so much experience parroting George W. Bush abroad, excuse me, I mean dealing with national security and world politics. However, I challenege that yes, that is true, unless something should happen to McCain.. Oh wait, isn't that the whole reason you elect a VP anyway, unlss something should happen to the President, and to serve as an assistant abroad? Damn, messed that one up, didn't you Johnny Boy. But, at least she's a woman, eh, that should help pull in the Demo left behind when Hillary dropped out, huh?

Well, if you need me I'll be offshore drilling in my back yard.

Adieu,
James.

Advanced Techniques, do not try at home.

I always love my little mini-weekend I get on Wednesdays and Thursdays, because I know I'll have two days to relax, get to see my family, and come home just in time to go to work and collect my pay check the next day.

Lately, things have been going well. I got my new puppy, she is awesome. Full of energy, of course, and keeps me up late and wakes me up early, but hey, what are you gonna do. She is a brindle colored Lab/Retriever mix, she's about 8 weeks old now.

Lynn and I are doing good. Learning to compromise, which is nice, and looking to both get better paying jobs in the near future as we get closer to the College semester.

Not a whole lot else going on. Nothing political to comment on, other than Hillary's impending political suicide..

Oh! The next gen iPhone has so much buzz right now that if I hear one more thing about it, I'm going to kill someone, I swear it. And as for LG and Samsung's entrys into the iKiller market, they look phenomenal, but I'll reserve judgement until I actually get to play with one.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

Things are going great as of right now on the homefront. The mobile home is officially ours, and we've begun working on the yard and some work on the house, as well as moving in a bit. Pictures to come once I get the yard under control, you guys don't wanna see what's become of the plants and trees after going untrimmed for 20 years.

Lynn and I are doing great, getting ready to celebrate our second Mother's Day together, which is always an organized mess of who goes where with who and when, but hey, that's what life is I reckon.

iPhone 2.0 is gonna be sweet, AT&T might drop the price on the 1.0 mecha low when it comes out, and the Cyclone over seas death toll has been raised to 22,000 people, so I guess it's a mixed week for news. By comparison sake, Katrina killed less than 5,000. Way less.

I got written up at Work the other day. Heh. Let me explain. It's like this. I'm minding my own business, doing some minor Photoshop retouches to this little underage hottie's pictures for her graduation invitation, and my fellow ImPress associate is watching me because her to PhotoShop is as Ray Charles to a vision chart, if you catch my drift, but none the less she is eager to learn and wanted to see what was going on. So Greg, my kind hearted and well meaning but mostly ineffective Key Carrying Sup, who may very well be a highly functioning Retard, decides to wander over and dispense the justice. Now, I barely listen to him on a good day, let alone when I'm busy working on the computer, so all I really heard, and mind you we're on the sales floor and no witness Manager was present for the discussion, was one of you needs to be whiping down the counters or doing ink refills or sweeping or emptying the trash instead of wasting company time, followed by a back and forth between him and Amanada, and then the phrase that snapped my attention back, "This is not a discussion, that was an order." It was at this point that I realised the entirety of what he just said, and I glanced at the customer standing next to us giving me one of those "I'm sorry, I didn't realise that my baby girl's graduation invites, something that only happens once in her life and will be remembered by everyone in attendance, was an inconvienience to your company." looks, aka the "Is dat nigga crazy!?!?" look. So, naturally, being the asshole that I am I chose to get on the radio and go "Hey Greg?" and he looks over his shoulder at this point, "If you ever pull something like that on the sales floor again, let alone in front of a guest I'm working with, you'll be stumbling through Photoshop for the rest of the night, because I'll be out of here."

Turns out he considers that Gross Insubordination, but whatever, he got down and dirty for improperly conducting a discussion, and then threatening to terminate me without clearing it with HR. Turns out I'm more familiar with the rules and regulations, and the District Manager's phone number, than he is.

Other than that, not a whole lot going on in the world of Downey.

Peace kids.

Work and shit.

Well, I've begun looking for a second job as a result of impending hour cutting at the OMax. Apparently, due to a glitch in the rules of OMax, our District Manager sent out a notice that even full timers can be cut to 26 hours, due to the fact that benefits and full time status are calculated bi-quarterly, meaning they would have to be below for 8ish weeks for it to affect. Super de duper de. If anyone knows of any interesting prospects, be sure to hit me up.

Lynn had an interview, she hasn't heard back from them quite yet, but they said not to expect to hear from them for a few more days, so we'll see how that goes.

Not a whole lot else going on. I haven't had the energy to read any sort of news yet today, so nothing important to discuss that I can recall.

Have fun kids.

Kicking it into high gear.

Well, sense I spend enough time on the web staying up to date with everything and anything, I figured it would be interesting to post my life and random news blurbs out there for everyone to see. And as such, I have created a quasi-personal psuedo-blog for everyone out there to enjoy. Here goes.

Today is Thursday, that means the gang got together and played some D&D. That's how we roll, I guess you could say. Christian is still out of town, but the rest of us were there in full force .. Aside from Jay, who was maybe three-quarter force because of the Red Wings game.

For those of you that don't know, I of course live in Michigan, meaning I'm pretty amped about the Wings and the Pistons right now, even though the Pistons somehow managed to ditch the first game to the Sixers, god knows how. But, the Wings won tonight, and the Pistons won last night, so all is well as of right now.

I guess the most important world news in the Tech world as of recent is that Virgin UK announced that they will start to, essentially, throttle customers that don't pay their premiums for full useage of their bandwidth. Now, I'm a huge supported of net neutrality, that is to say that everyone should get the same speeds going to a web site, obviously within reason, as going to any other website. Meaning if, for instance, I wanted to surf YouTube, but Virgin had made a deal with another video website, YouTube would get throttled and the other website would run crystal clear, and I am against that for many reasons. I guess the mean reason boils down to freedom of speach and choice, and really the fact that information shouldn't be capitalised to that such a point. I mean, I'm already paying for the privalege of you connecting me to the internet, the company shouldn't have to pay for that same privalege, should they? Kind of a double dipping corporate greed scenario, and incredibly unfair to websites who can't afford or won't pay the information tariff being levied upon them.

Politically speaking, I'd like to formally announce that regardless of who ends up going, I would never say that I won't vote because someone doesn't win the bid. Hillary and Barak are both great choices, in my opinion, though I would prefer to see Barak make it. I have nothing against Hillary, and she's definately, in my opinion, a better choice than any Republican or Independent running this term, but I think my views of what the country needs more align with Barak's views, and that's what it's all about in the end. I can understand that Hillary has White House experience, and Political experience in general, but that doesn't make her the best choice overall; it comes down to who can handle the pressures of the position and maintain a clear head and enforce their ideals better, and in my opinion Barak has better plans, and better stances on the key issues, than Hillary does. That's not to say Hillary is a bad choice, and that's not to say that her stances are completely off the wall and she will crumble instantly under pressure, I would just prefer to see Barak in there.

In other news, I saw There Will Be blood last night. It was .. interesting .. although it's slow pace lost me at several times throughout the movie. Walk Hard was a bit of a let down for me, really. Juno was great. I'll do more indepth reviews later when I'm not so tired.

Adieu, until we meet again.
